A Cautionary Tale for Bullies

The story you are about to read is hilariously true and also provides a special lesson on instant karma.

Georgetown, Colorado, nestled in a valley with I-70 on the far left.

The year was 1976, the American Bi-Centennial year, and those of us that were so fortunate to be teenagers in the 70’s with its ridiculously great music, long hair hippie styles, free love, no more Vietnam War, big muscle cars and VW bugs can never fully explain how magical and carefree it was. I had moved many times in childhood. Just a small sample leading up to the event (and I wasn’t a military brat):

  • 1970: First half of 5th Grade: Virginia Beach, VA (Sandbridge)
  • 1970: Second half 5th Grade: Denver, CO (17th St. Across from City Park)
  • 1971: Sixth Grade: Englewood, CO (Corona St.)
  • 1972: Seventh Grade: Billings, MT (rental house)
  • 1973: Eight Grade: Billings, MT (different neighborhood))
  • 1974: First half of 9th Grade (Boulder, CO living in a dingy dairy barn)
  • 1974: Second half of 9th Grade (Empire, CO small mountain town)
  • 1975–76: 10th-11th Grades (Georgetown, CO, sleepy charming ski town in mountains)

One of the strange advantages of moving so much is one develops skills for making new friends and one also develops a greater appreciation for how people think…
