Over the years I’ve had a lot of conservative friends who I’ve genuinely respected and in fact with a lot of them I had no idea what their political leanings were, which was fine with me. I understand that for various reasons folks are born different in the way they think and also raised in circumstances beyond their control. It was easy for me to become a Liberal type since I was raised by a woman who adored FDR, JFK, RFK and MLK and who herself was a brilliant PhD English professor and artist. She regularly mocked racists and prissy, uptight conservatives like Wallace, Nixon, Buckley, Anita Bryant, Goldwater, etc. She was a feminist by nature and reinforced through her own struggles as a single mother operating in a man’s world. So I inherited her views.

Lately, I find myself struggling to understand how so many people can seem to abandon not only Common Sense but the basic rules of decency and social norms that hold the fabric of society together. I fail to comprehend how anyone can see Donald Trump as anything but a con man, a common NY shyster, a spoiled brat who has never heard “No” and frankly, as a dimwit who has no moral anchor. How can they not notice the constant swirl of negativity and problems that surrounds him? How does he continue to grip these folks like he’s still a shining star on Prime Time TV…
