Hi Cliff...thanks for the thoughtful insights. It is certainly a most fascinating topic. I have much to learning I do believe you will find a large amount of software goes into both the training of ML models and exposing them to end users but I get what you are saying. Probably without the software, including the operating systems we use to interact with NN they would be useless to us. I'm not exactly sure what the analog is in our own consciousness.
