I agree, that some small communes seemed to work for a little while but yet to see one that lasts more than a generation. As for Russia and China, they clubbed each other for power, not for resources, which is also why political systems and economic systems are different entities. For example China uses communism for power and capitalism for making money. Russia uses leftover Soviet autocracy for power and capitalism for money.
