I wish absolute sovereignty wasn't such a bugaboo of the modern state's mindset. I feel many peaceful solutions could come with a more advanced concept of shared sovereignty for example in Crimea or Jerusalem or Taiwan. I suppose it's bureaucratically untenable when the governing model is so different but it would be cool if more places could be shared in peace and not used as fodder for mortal combat. Such contentious places could also be governed by a UN body and the two claimants could have special rights in terms of access, passports, etc. I always wanted to see Jerusalem turned into an International Peace Park owned by the world but I'm a pie-in-the-sky kind of guy.
