Ideas in the end can never escape the Darwinian challenge of survival of the fittest. Nature doesn’t do equal. That’s why a lion isn’t a centipede. Some ideas are lions and some are centipedes. But even among lions there are dominant ones who’s genes propagate because they get to mate more. The same happens with ideas. Genetics and Memetics are analogous.
Unfortunately, with the advent of billionaire owned media companies, the weakest meme can be amplified and appear to be the winner when it’s actually just a really loud vermin and toxic to the public. Even so, inevitably the inferiority exposes itself and the better ideas once again overtake the nonsense, lies, ignorance and flaws of the memetically deformed. However, the damage done can be very consequential in the mean time so one of the best things we can do is to de-amplify terrible ideas and untruths with more law suits. In a court of law, there is no false equivalence and facts are not ignored.
Finally, the only equivalence of ideas is the opportunity to be heard and examined, aka the First Amendment but once in the arena it has ro prove it is fit to survive or to go extinct as millions of terrible ideas have. This is oversimplified on my part.
Thanks for writing this article. Totally agree.
