If we allow this continued metastasis of anti-democratic power grabs then we will need a catastrophe or armageddon to regain power. But if we exercise the power we still possess, then the uber class will be tamed with wealth taxes and maximum wealth caps. No individual is worthy of state-level wealth and power such as the ability to create a private space program. All such power should revert to a well-educate public through just representation.

There are also limits on the lily pond imposed by externalities so for example if the inability to afford rent goes too low for too many, the rent seekers are starved of revenues and even their backers, the banks are adversely affected and can collapse since they are propped up in a pyramid scheme with no objective value backing them. The ultimate externality is the world itself which is a closed system and it can quickly remind everybody, no matter how wealthy, is a "renter" of time and resources on Earth, not even close to an owner.

Also, a society built on a completely parasitic model could never compete with other more equananimous societies and would find itself far behind in quality of life and technical advances. China for example could become completely futuristic and solar-based and space faring and simply dominate like they did for a thousand years before. So Darwinian competition can't be eliminated so easily, though Dark Ages can happen.
