In math it’s not that odd. Zero is a point that has an infinite ray going left (past) and an infinite ray going right (future). All you are saying is zero (present) is impossible which is gibberish indeed. Take it up with Steven Hawking who posited a Universe with no beginning yet it has a present and a future. Also, the article only explores an idea, it doesn’t take a preferred position.
