Jets are generally for offensive purposes such as delivering normal, super and hypersonic missiles/bombs to objective targets. However they also have some defenses for anti-aircraft including flack clouds which can destroy any hypersonic weapon that touches it. It only takes a tiny bit of mass to deliver a death blow to a hypersonic because of the law of opposites in physics. Imagine a BB or smaller traveling at 10,000 MPH.
