My estimates about technological progression are loosely based on Moore’s Law and there are 10 other battery and fuel cell technologies that don’t take lithium or less of it. Also, one small lithium asteroid could supply everything needed for humanity. As for cost/drivability there is nothing preventing VW or Nissan, Toyota, Ford, GM, Kia, Hyundai, etc. from making an affordable, decent electric car in the 20–30k range. It’s extremely difficult to predict even 5 years into the future nowadays but I see a LOT of incentives for moving to electromagnet propulsion sooner than later—Climate, geopolitical being most pressing. I’m bullish on electrics.
