Put another way—Hegemony is not by fiat or the will of a dictator but controlled by evolutionary forces where diversity always wins. In other words, a mouse can’t wish its way into being an eagle. It has to evolve. That said, China is no mouse and was the leading nation on Earth for much of History before communism made them purge their intellectual population and go all Big Brother. During that purge and a century before, the US took in millions of Chinese so we are a fractionally a newer Chinese culture. My nephew is half Korean. It goes on and on. On top of that China is experiencing a real estate collapse and population collapse and high youth unemployment so the state will do insane things to prop it up. I saw a Chinese slaver ship recently, literally beating the African men they had captured to work. They treat the oceans terribly, robbing it of fish on an industrial scale, bringing it to the brink of collapse too. Despicable and desperate. Expect worse as they struggle to help an aging population.

In the end, the human species is a parasitic life form to the Earth which has the final "hegemony."
