Putin is also deeply delusional and insulated from Reality. However, I believe deep down he regrets his choice to invade Ukraine but he's not the type to back down so perhaps the West should at least conceive of a way to let him believe he is saving face such as "Russia has successfully punished Ukraine (for nothing) and humbled them." I don't know what will work with such a twisted autocrat.
