Sorry, I find this opinion piece to be an emotion-based oversimplification and the Hobbits are definitely not coming for a very long time, if ever. Of course, the vileness of rampant capitalism permeates every corner of American life but the actual genesis of the Constitutional Republic and a highly internationalized, multi-cultural public was a result of World History, not some diabolical Machiavellian plan.

I always reduce everything down to evolution. Any mutation is tested until it succeeds or dies or adapts. There is no escape from evolution because the final arbiter is The Earth, a closed system powered by the Sun. The larger picture is the human species, regardless of America, is a parasitic species in the process of harming its host. But this isn't any host. It's the Host of All Hosts so it can't be killed but can only kill or allow species to pass the test and live another generation.

No, Americans are not any different and really are are an amalgam of all cultures, a microcosm. You should only hope that this microcosm is successful because in a way if it's not, no one will be. If we can't work our sustainability and peaceful co-existence, then how will others? If we can't harness the best and the brightest, who will? The James Webb Telescope shows where we are and what we can be. But the military industrial complex shows how a defensive immune system can turn on itself, much like the 2nd Amendment is a hazard, not a helper. The evolutionary jury is not out yet but whatever it decides will affect WAY more than Americans.

Finally, did you know the country with the highest favorability toward America is Vietnam? 84% so no, Orc is not the only thing we appear as. Some see us more as a Gandalf or a Jimi Hendrix or a Bernie Sanders or Barack Obama or Bill Gates or any number of lofty figures that soar far above mini-Sauron Vladimir Putin.
