The emerging model is circular economy and copper is one of the best materials to recycle, regardless of source since it has no degradation between cycles. Much plumbing (you are right about gas which is also cast iron in older homes) is done in copper as well as wiring and motors, transformers, etc. Buildings and motors and transformers are continuously demolished. I don’t think copper is going to hold us back.
