The Pathetic Ill “Logic” of American Gun Laws
Logic is fairly straightforward, sort of like math.
Premises: All squares are rectangles. All rectangles have four sides.
Conclusion: All squares have four sides.
If you can’t understand this or want to say some squares don’t have four sides then you might not get much out of this exercise. You could say I don’t know if all sides of a square are equal in length based on the premise which only mentions the number of sides of all rectangles of which a square is one. You can reject the premises and thus the conclusion but you can’t accept the premises and reject the conclusion without being illogical and nonsensical.
noun arm or arms : a means (such as a weapon) of offense or defense
Illogic creates contradictions and cognitive dissonance and to accept illogic as logic makes you a sucker, or a fool, or a weirdo, or an idiot. Of course, not all logic is so simple and we can be forgiven for coming to different conclusions and one area this might be the case is in the area of interpreting laws. And perhaps one of America’s most famous laws is the Second Amendment.
A well regulated Militia being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.
