The American Experiment is in peril.
I grew up in a world where America was pretty much synonymous with awesome and I was proud to call myself American. We had heroes like George Washington who amazingly defeated a powerful king and began the peaceful transfer of power—the American Experiment. We had thinkers like Ben Franklin and James Madison and Thomas Jefferson who brilliantly forged our Constitution. We had Checks and Balances. We had Historic Figures like Abraham Lincoln, Frederick Douglass, Emily Dickenson, Emerson, Teddy Roosevelt, Steinbeck, FDR, Rosa Parks, MLK and JFK. We abolished slavery. We invented Jazz and Rock and electric guitars. We won World Wars. We landed on the Moon. We enacted sweeping Civil Rights. We made great TV, music and movies. We were hard working, productive and very innovative. We practically invented the Modern World. We had moral fiber based on solid principles of honesty, altruism and caring for our neighbors. That world is still there, of course, but alarmingly, it’s fading fast. Now I’m embarrassed because I always thought it was onward and upward, but no, we’ve regressively entered into uncharted territory.
