There is a certain terrible period after a nation-level hyper violence attack that is almost impossible to control. In a way it can be seen as one unified act of violence perpetrated by the initiator and by choosing the wrong enemy, their own violence instantly reflects back to them and those around them. After this reflexive defense is triggered, almost like when a body is injured and it goes into survival mode, it is impossible to stop at first. However, there is a period thereafter when the mind and heart can engage and not be governed by raw emotion. I would hope Israel reaches that stage VERY soon as the superior force and wealthier nation vs. a criminal organization and not another nation so that a more rational and effective plan can be executed with MUCH LESS collateral damage to innocent bystanders.
