Those examples you give are all nurtured by a loving, hospitable, living Earth with birds, fresh air and billions of people to produce the Wright brothers. To leave that is to go into the zone of death, the radiated vacuum of space, to fight with gravity instead of flowing with it. I can fantasize all manner of robotic, automated manufacturing in space and have even written a book about it. That’s much different than living there.

We know what is required to do it but we don’t know how to stop bad actors from easily ruining it. I’m less worried about the physical inventions required to make super efficient refrigerators in space and more worried about the chaos of our societies, the hatred and greed. Work those out and space will be more hospitable.

We already live on the best, most awesome spaceship for lightyears around.
