You are sort of making my arguments for me in which I mentioned the skills an Ai coaxer can develop and the drive and aesthetic talents they already possessed. However, like Cinderella, for many, during a power outage they have no Ai skills. Then the power comes on and they have no computer so still stuck. Then they get a computer but it has no Ai software as 5 years ago and damn, still can’t make art. Now they got Ai but it was only trained with three images so all the art looks terrible and similar. Then finally OpenAI receives a billion dollars of funding so they can train it with many billions of pictures and now the Ai artist is an artist again. That’s a lot of dependencies. Music Dudes can rap and dance and play drums on a bucket or acoustic instruments like the human voice and you know they are artists when you hear them. Picasso needed a napkin and a candle and some charcoal. Some artists only need rocks or twigs.

There’s a reason why you go to the art museums of the world and you are not in a photo gallery but that’s a smaller section unless its a photo museum and then everyone wants to see Maplethorpe or Adams. But to be a great photographer requires patience, a very good eye for subjects and composition and uncanny timing and even psychology if you are doing portraits. Essays have been written on the photographer as artist and the bar is high. Now everyone is a photographer with their phone but some are just better at it. It’s a capture art and cinema is too but it’s also a theatric art that takes a team. DALL-E has a huge team. Google, Adobe, so many will all be trained and ready to dazzle for years and no one will care because of the Great Art Glut. You see, you only have so many years to live and can only look at a few million pictures for a few seconds at the most if that’s all you did all day.

As a generative artist, I would never be caught saying Ai or computers can’t make art or someone can’t be a great artist using them. Tékne (τέχνη) is the Greek word for art so technology and technique are always involved. These Illustrator vector files took me a few seconds to generate last night using software I wrote from scratch. One is a drawing I made on paper to do variations on using nothing but Imagination…also known as I without the A.
